Whether you are under a corporate mandate, attempting to comply with governmental regulations, using Green initiatives for marketing purposes, or simply a Green proponent, you need an honest and dependable source for Carbon Credits and/or Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). Since all organizations depend on cash flows to operate, it makes just as much sense to competitively source Carbon Credits and RECs on the open market as it does to source, say schoolbooks, aluminum, or any commodity for that matter. The objective should be to comply (or simply be Green) at the lowest possible cost to your organization, provided the Credits are legitimate and traceable.

What do you need to know about Carbon Credits and RECs?
- Carbon Credits and RECs are not the same thing.
- 1 REC = 1 MWh of electricity supplied by a renewable source (ex. wind, solar, & geothermal)
- Prices vary by generating asset and location
- 1 Carbon Credit = 1 tonne of CO2 avoided (examples of avoidance are planting trees or recapturing methane)
- The going rate for carbon credits is between $1 and $30 per tonne depending on a variety of factors.
- The amount of carbon emissions avoided per REC varies by state. Suppose two RECs are selling at the same price, but they originate in different states. If you do not know the amount of carbon offset varies by state, you would be indifferent. However, with BUE's Green experts, you will realize one is "cheaper" per CO2 tonne offset. This knowledge
will result in huge monetary savings when trying to reduce your carbon footprint. - To ensure the purchase of legitimate Credits, BUE only offers those that have been verified by state agencies (ex. Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System (MIRECS)™) or nationally recognized bodies (ex. Chicago Climate Exchange, the Western Climate Initiative, and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative).
