Maryland Electric Rates
Electric
Beginning in 1997, the Maryland General Assembly issued a plan for the restructuring of the energy industry. The Maryland Public Service Commission then ordered that all customers have retail access to electricity suppliers by the summer of 2002. This ordinance allowed for a competitive energy market and gave customers the option to choose their electricity supplier. The now deregulated energy market in Maryland is structured with 4 utilities: Allegheny Power, Baltimore Gas & Electric Company, Delmarva Power, and Potomac Electric Power Company. Customers of these utilities can now choose their electricity supplier.

Natural Gas
Natural gas is one of the most volatile commodities traded in financial markets. It is especially sensitive to global weather conditions, natural disasters (hurricanes, etc.), and the economy. In the fall of 2005, a series of natural disasters around the world, including Hurricane Katrina and a typhoon in China, affected the price of natural gas immensely. As seen in 2008, the price of natural gas can spike to $13/MMBtu and then fall to ~$2/MMBtu in just a few years (2012).
Fortunately, the market for Natural Gas in Maryland was deregulated in 1997—much like it was for electricity— allowing suppliers to compete for your business so you are better protected from experiencing uncertainty in the market. BUE consultants specialize in risk analysis and mitigation to protect your business while taking advantage of market opportunities.
Businesses residing in Maryland can take advantage of this competitive marketplace. Now, more than ever, businesses can reduce the cost of manufacturing, heating, and any other process that uses Natural Gas.
